COMMITMENT TO TRANSPARENCY PUTS CURRICULUM ONLINE, Dr. Matthew Murphy, Ramsey, Superintendent

Ramsey School District’s ground-breaking curriculum platform is accessible to the public as part of our commitment to transparency.

Ramsey is the first school district in the world to publish its network of courses using Blueprint, a new curriculum management software. Blueprint lets users view over 200 course descriptions and almost 1,000 instructional units.

Blueprint is an important tool for people looking to learn more about curriculum details, such as the Health curriculum that meets new state standards. While there have been rumors across the state about these standards, Blueprint is a way for the community to see how they will be met in Ramsey.

Simply put, standards do not equal curriculum. Each local school district in New Jersey must design and implement curricula and has some discretion as long as it is aligned with the standards. The collaborative development of our lessons, as well as the selection of resources, started with our experienced Wellness teachers. Elected citizens on the Board of Education’s Curriculum Committee also provided input. The next step was a presentation to the public, which was done at the Board meeting on Aug. 30.

We have worked to create a top-of-the-line curriculum that will help students develop the foundational knowledge and skills that lead to content mastery. In turn, they can then build on their knowledge. Blueprint allows the community to see and understand Ramsey curriculum as an integrated whole.
