Dr. Matthew Murphy, The Wrong Focus on AI

“Companies are taking advantage of schools’ misunderstandings of artificial intelligence. It’s important for us to combat that,” stated Madison Jacobs from EdTech Equity in the EdWeek article shared herein. It’s not just companies, but nonprofits “who don’t know what they don’t know” are applauding AI curriculum downloads, which is far from the solution. Schools HAVE curricula, and teachers know how to build great lessons; we need to model best practices on how to INTEGRATE AI into existing curricula, not add more work. Let’s focus on a) AI policies and practices, b) Rethinking curriculum, assessment, and instruction opportunities with AI, and c) teacher preparedness. We can’t let companies and the VC market own the message this time. AI can empower learners and teachers like nothing we have ever experienced, but we need the right messaging. #IntegrateAI#edtechequity#keeprising
