Dear Ramsey and Saddle River Parents:
The news cycle continues to focus on COVID-19, but this is a time for knowledge and common sense rather than alarm. Our schools are safe, our staff is ready for online learning, and our community is in the good hands of Ramsey’s Emergency Services and First Responders. By working together we will see the BEST of our community.
However, I do need your help. Please keep the lines of communication open between home and schools and with your children. Some tips:
- Give your children basic facts, and give them access to more information if they ask for it. Take the lead from them.
- Focus on supporting them as this situation evolves, whether their needs are social, emotional or educational.
- Remember the children are watching. They are watching social media, news reports, and adult reactions. They are more attuned than one may think.
- If you need guidance on what to say or how to say it, use these tips from the National Associations of School Nurses and School Psychologists.
I don’t plan to address every rumor that pops up. As I have said consistently: The best, most accurate information will come from the school district. Over the past few years, we have built up quite a number of communication vehicles. Believe me, you will get the information.
While there are NO reported cases of COVID-19 in our community, nor are we planning on closing down our schools anytime soon, these may happen. If this is the case, know that the Ramsey School District and the Borough of Ramsey will continue coming together as a community, as we always do.
Very truly yours,
Matthew J. Murphy, Ed. D.
