Dear Friends,
Porches have surged in popularity as people seek a little outdoor time and see what’s happening around them. If you’ve recently passed the old “Homestead” for seniors on Main Street, right at the bend of Wyckoff Avenue, you’ve probably noticed that it looks a little “tired.” We are looking for a contractor who could donate the labor for a restoration, and/or any assistance with materials or labor.
That property is a group home run by West Bergen Mental Healthcare, a local non-profit that provides all types of services for clients who struggle with varying degrees of mental illness. It serves individuals who struggle with more severe challenges. The home is staffed 24/7 and fits nicely into our community of Ramsey. West Bergen also runs the Center for Children and Youth on Cherry Lane in Ramsey, providing important (particularly during this pandemic!) programs for children and families.
That Main Street property is truly a home for the clients who reside there, and one of the things they treasure is sitting on that front porch. The size of the porch, including its ramp for accessibility, are perfectly sized, but the wood is deteriorating. We are looking for a contractor who can work within the existing footprint to take on a restoration project that will be seen by passersby for years to come, and appreciated every single day by the home’s residents.
If you can help, or you know someone who might be able to assist, please contact either us to get more information and ask any questions about this worthy project.
