Dear Ramsey and Saddle River Communities,
After last night’s Board of Education meeting, I shared with the Board that I am making plans to retire. After working in public education since 1990, I am ready for a new adventure while I am still healthy (and my wife still talks to me).
No definite end date has been established as I will work with the Board to provide a complete and smooth transition for the next lucky leader of Ramsey School District.
The past two years have been extra challenging, but they aren’t a reason for this decision. Those years reminded me, with pride, of some of the reasons I chose a career in education. (I speak not of COVID or politics, but of innovative teachers, determined students, and a supportive community.) I always eyed 55 as a good age to retire, and I always thought a superintendent should lead a district for only 10 years. I’ll hit both of those milestones next year.
The Board of Education will release a statement over the next few days to begin the process of searching for and selecting the next superintendent.
I plan to stay active in areas that impact our communities, and there will be plenty of time to talk about those. For now, I will look forward to keeping the spotlight on our students for the last two festive months of this school year.
Regards,
Matthew J. Murphy, Ed. D.
