December 21, 2020
To Students, Parents, Staff, and other Friends of Ramsey School District:
As the holiday season approaches, I would like to thank you for all your support and assistance during what can only be described as a very unusual 2020. No one could have predicted it, but of course, life is unpredictable. I also realize that not everyone has agreed with the decisions I have made. However, through the many ups and downs, twists and turns, differences of opinions, and unexpected challenges, one thing I can honestly say is that I never lost faith in us. One does not have to look far to see acts of heroism from our Ramsey first responders, beautiful gifts of humanity as in Ramsey Strong, the exceptional teaching in our classrooms, and the countless individual stories of fortitude, strength, and resilience from our community.
Amid all that was insidious, those acts were inspiring. They remind me how strong faith can be. I draw upon my personal faith often in times of challenges and uncertainty, and I will continue to do so as we enter the new year.
I have faith that our country will come together and heal – physically, spiritually, emotionally, economically, and politically.
I have faith that our first responders and health care professionals throughout the world will keep working toward long-term, widespread solutions for COVID-19.
I have faith that our Board of Education members will continue to put students first and foremost as they are faced with difficult and often unpopular decisions.
I have faith in our stellar staff, who continually amaze me in these troubled times. It is hard to be a teacher right now. They are some of my favorite personal heroes.
Over Winter Recess, please take a minute to look in on a loved one, friend, or neighbor who might be alone or lonely. Take care of yourself, and remember it’s okay not to be okay: This is an incredibly stressful period of time. Our Ramsey Warmline is available: 201-688-7098. And lastly, I will always be available over break if you or someone else needs help, or needs someone to talk to. Just reach out. We are all in this together.
Don’t lose faith. I have no doubt that better days lay in front of us. And I look forward to celebrating them with you!
On behalf of my beautiful wife Megan and my two amazing daughters, Madison and Mia, I wish you and your loved ones a happy holiday season and a blessed 2021.
Sincerely,
Matthew J. Murphy, Ed. D.
